I am interested in seeing where others do most of their work? We have an extra room converted to a classroom but are considering changing it into a guest room and just working from the dining room, not sure.

Here is a link to the pics on my Facebook page, I did it this way so I can tag them

I don't have pictures but we school in the dining room at the table.  I have storage for school stuff in the living room, and my bedroom.  Each child has a crate that holds his pencil case, all of his individual workbooks, his assignment folder, index card binder (for bible verses), index card holder (flashcards), and his Bible.  When we are ready to start for the day I tell them to get their crates and meet me at the table.  I have a small table on wheels that I use to hold my books while I'm using them, then they are put away when I'm done.

So not organized!  I just give that appearance.  I'm not a very good organizer or housekeeper...but I try my best. Smiley

We have been doing it in the kitchen for the past 2 years. No matter how hard I tried to organize it, it was always a mess. I'm very eclectic so I have hoards of different stuff I use on and off. This summer we decided to convert the garage into a homeschool room. I am sooo glad we did, my house is so much cleaner and my homeschool area is finally organized.

Quite possible!  I have come to the conclusion that a messy home simply means you have well cared for children Smiley  I do my best to keep it presentable, and I figure as long as we can find what we need, have clean clothes to wear and school gets done we are in good shape! Wink

Don't feel bad, we don't have enough chairs to all eat around our dining room table, so DH and I eat on the sofa, and the three boys eat at the table Smiley

We use the kitchen table as well. I have enough chairs for all of us to eat at the table....just not enough table for all of us. I want a HS room Sad Guess I'll have to wait till one of the bigs grows up and leaves home.

In our old house I had a classroom that was a converted garage. I thought it was what I wanted, but it didn't work out for us. A converted garage is almost "separate" from the rest of the house, so it felt like we were leaving to go do school.

And getting stuff you need from the house is chaotic because either you go get it and leave your kids to go berserk in the classroom, or they go get it and just happen to spend an hour looking for it  Roll Eyes And trust me, no matter how much you prepare, you'll still need stuff from the house.

If you have preschoolers/toddlers, you better be VERY prepared for them to be stuck in the one room with you, or alone in the rest of the house--because you can't be both places at once!

We liked curling up on the couch to read, and ds11 likes working in his bed. Sooo, we had the classroom and switched back to the dining room table/living room. Now that we've moved, we don't have the extra room and don't miss it!

We all eat dinner together every night at the table, and my hubby can't stand clutter (my monstrous desk is my only clutter-filled holdout), so I had to find space to store all our stuff every afternoon. Thank God for CS and Rubbermaid bins LOL

My hubby can't stand clutter either. I have a huge bookcase and storage drawers. I still need more storage though Huh

My solution to clutter was to buy sterilite 3 drawer carts...we have three of them, and crates for each child, and then the curriculum is stored in an armoire in the living room so the doors hide the clutter Smiley  Though honestly I am more bothered by clutter than DH, and I'm not obsessive about it but it's nice to have a clear area to sit in Smiley

I don't like eating in the living room, but my dh does. I hate the TV but he likes to watch it while he eats....sigh! Atleast when my table is full I don't secretly long to be in there as a family.

We use our diningroom too. But it's actually set up as a school room. We have the computer on a corner desk. A small bookshelf beside it that holds the printer and my teachers manuals. Beside that is a sterilite 3 drawer container that I keep stickers, staple, paperclips, opened packages of notebook paper and other things like that in. On the other wall is another large bookshelf that holds the kids workbins along with extra curricula. Then we have a HUGE double sided wipe off board on a stand($5 yardsale find) that seperates two diningrooms. We actually use both of the rooms. I set the other table up for my son when he does his typing and then sometimes I have to seperate the kids so we use it then.  Hidden in the doorway above the wipeoff board we have two pull down maps ($5 each at a school sale). That's our schoolroom.
