Have you all noticed that the answers here are not "I am"  but "we are"  and that is what I love about home schooling.  It's a "we" thing.  A tight bond with our children;  showing our children that they are important enough that we put aside our selfish goals and put them first.
We have a variety of learning styles in our home school.  Mostly we are traditional with a lot of unschooling - learning by actively living.

Eclectic, but I lean toward classical.

I am eclectic and getting more relaxed as time goes on. Just don't ask my son he would disagree. We are still not as relaxed as I WANT to be, but change is hard Wink

I have no idea what we are just yet...so I will call our style "confused." I am sure things will get better as we get into in more, but for now we are just trying to find our footing.

I'm waaay to early in my journey to say. I dont follow any philosophies, I go with my own gut instinct and opinions about what will help me achieve my goals in educating my students. I want them to all be STRONG and capable readers, so I push reading, reading, and more reading until they can read fluently.

My main focus for the first x number of months is on reading fluency and gradual writing ability. Math is next, and I dont really put much stock in "grades" or "levels" I go by my students abilities and progress rates.

I was trying to figure out what to say when I got to yours Gizzy. Yep, this about sums it up for us too.  I am still learning how to do this myself. Just don't tell my DS please. He's still listening to me. He thinks I am the authority figure, lol.

I have a preschooler, soooooo.....right now we are kinda whatever she says. Anyway she will learn and be happy. She makes it easy. However, as we get up there I want more structure and I am non negotiable about bible, math and phonics. I like different curriculums for different subjects too. I guess we'll end up a goulash of styles Grin

We are trying to figure out what we are going to be when we grow up. My kids are little yet, well, 4,2, and one in the oven. I've been looking to homeschool for a while.
I like the idea of year round homeschooling. Since my oldest is really into learning... I've been focused on finding something that we both would like.

For Reading and Writing I really like the Wanda Sanseri method of teaching.
It is called: Spell to Write and Read. I was debating between that and The Writing Road to Reading and Thinking. Both methods teach students to read by memorizing the sounds of the letters 70/71 phonemes depending who you talk to. and you do for pre-K one to two letters at the time, and for K 5 letters/day, then you move fast into spelling rules. They want no cute pictures with the letters so the kids don't memorize the apple instead of all the sounds that the "a" makes.

For Math, I really like Math in Focus or any version of Singapore math and Math-U-See. I hear so many good things about Math-U-See in the homeschooling community, but I have not been able to get my hands on some of their curriculum yet, just their blocks. However you can see the full spectrum of the Math and all the books and all their pages for the Math in Focus. The latter is a curriculum that is way to expensive for me... I like that it has more manipulatives than just the blocks of MUS.

Now, to that conclusion I came after a few years or researching! I am soooo slow... or maybe indecisive (however you spell that).

My kids birthdays are AFTER September, so they would not be eligible to enter Kindergarten with their friends...kind of odd age. that is one reason I decided to start School in January instead, when my oldest would be 5 for a few months... and do year around school.

For Art, Science, Music, History, and all those things that I need to do for my kids, I have no idea.... Huh Any input in those areas would be appreciated.

God bless you!

I like the idea of year round homeschooling.

You may be interested in the method we use then, it is called Sabbath Schooling! You do school for 6 weeks, take a week off. Then you can break up "breaks" however you like.

We do school 4 days a week, 6 weeks, take a week off. Then in December, we take 4 weeks off and in the "summer" we take off 6 weeks. Essentially it is like year round schooling without burnout!
