Anyone do diagnostic testing? What do you use to test skills. We do not have to here in TX, but I was considering doing it just for me. Does anyone have anything that you use that you really like? I am just doing this to really "test" me and to make me accountable. Any ideas?

I like DORA and DOMA for reading and math  (www.letsgolearn.com).  It's for K-12, and each test is $20 (unless you go through homeschool buyer's co-op... it's $15 each).  The test doesn't have levels. It adapts to your child getting harder and harder until the child starts making mistakes.  Then it tells you what level the child is on for each broken down section (like spelling, comprehension, phonics, etc.).  It's very child friendly in the early stages (a monkey tells the child what to do) and more mature for the later stages (no monkey).

My son takes the IOWA through our local homeschooling group.  In FL, we need to either have an annual evaluation or show that we have taken an assessment test (the results are not required to be reported, only proof of testing).  I have him take this mainly for me so I know where our strengths and weaknesses are.

I use the CAT every year. I spend $25 to have it done.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I will look into what each of you suggested. I remember taking the CAT test when I was in elementary and Intermediate school.  Cheesy

We've used the CAT by Seton for the past two years. I'm in FL, so our evaluator has the results sent directly to me. She fills out a form stating my children are learning commensurate with their ability and that is what I send to our district. The test scores are only for us to review. :-)

We do Brigance as well... but next year we will start using the IOWA test, once my son has completed 6th grade. I never send in my test scores, (it's not required) I just test so I know that I am doing a good job teaching! Wink

I'm not sure that we will do testing or not.  Probably at some point once the kids are older... Maybe 4th or 5th grade?  It's nice to see the suggestions here!

It is not required in Alabama, but most cover schools here recommend you have it done. They usually provide the test at your expense and send you the results. I am not sure what they use and mine isn't old enough yet anyway.
