I'm just a "do the next thing"-er... but I love to organize.  I love to MAKE schedules, it's the following them I stink at.  Ha!  Good info here.  Smiley

I wish someone would give me a little OCD ... HeHeHe ... I stink at following too. Grin My poor babies have never been on a "schedule". I drive my family insane!  Roll Eyes (but they love me anyway)

I do a daily schedule by subject for my son that I place in a page protector and he highlights as he finishes each task.  When he is done, I file them in my notebook for record keeping.  I have gotten most of my annual schedules through the generosity of others via the WTM board. I also use workboxes which for both of us is a godsend.  It keeps everything neat and tidy and where it is supposed to be so we don't have to search for a half and hour for books like we used to.  Tongue

Blessings,

Lisa

I love WTM as well. I am thinking of trying workboxes for my K. I have read tons on them. Do they really make a big difference? I would love to hear how you set yours up.

I love my message boards. I don't know what I would have done when I pulled the kids out of ps, if not for the help and advice I received from them.  Huh Have you ever noticed how the homeschool community will really pull together and answer most any question you have? Everyone is so great. Being able to have a place to discuss fears and concerns is a priceless gift. Thank goodness for people who start these boards.  Wink Many thanks.

Ah, planning...that's that thing that I spend about 3 weeks on before school starts, and for the first month of school I spend 3-4 hours a week making a plan/schedule, but somehow it all goes out the window by about week 6!  I think my children miss the memo each year that they are supposed to follow the plan.

Seriously though, the extent of my planning now is putting tests/projects/outside activities on a calendar that everyone can see and hopefully follow.  With our curriculum I just mark our spot each day and do the next part when we pick it up again.  I realize it's very tossed about and that this won't work for most people but it works for us so I'm happy.

Organization around here basically means everything has a drawer or shelf to belong on and I expect it to remain there when not in use.

I try to keep as organized as possible.  Wink
But before that, I use my own form (which I have been creating and refining for years)  to figure the dates and durations of each semester, quarter, and week.  Then figure out how many days a week we need to spend on each subject to complete it in the time allotted as our school year.  (if you take the number of lessons and divide that by the number of days given to complete them, you'll get a decimal - and using each unit of .2 as one lesson a week, you can figure out how many lessons you need to do a week.  So .6 means that you  would need to do three lessons a week.  Always round up. )

I use homeschooltracker for  recording the resources/curricula we use, recording assignment info, printing assignment sheets for the kids, figuring grades, printing report cards, etc.
Even though I schedule assignments over the entire school year, I only record a couple weeks at a time.  That way, if I need to skip a day or two I have fewer records to change.
