I am a very relaxed eclectic homeschooling mom. I love to be spontaneous and let the children take an active roll in what we choose to do and learn. Any ideas on what to use as a planner or organizer of sorts? What have you moms found that works for you? I would love any advice or suggestions you think might work for us. Thanks in advance. Cheesy

I am eager to see some ideas!  I purchased a teacher planner book from the Target dollar spot today and hope to fill it in with more concrete ideas.. Wink

LOL  Grin Have you ever looked at the free planners from http://dynamic2moms.webs.com/
I hope it is OK to put this here. Follow their link to New Beginnings. I love to watch for their unit studies too. These ladies are wonderful to share their hardwork with us for free. (Don't you just love the word FREE?  Wink)

Last year we sort of just went with the flow, but I confess that I'm not great at time management, and I often found that the day was over and we got little if anything done.  Embarrassed
This year, I sat down and wrote out a loose schedule of sorts. (My son is in kindergarten, and we're we're pretty laid back too, so the schedule reflects that.)
Basically, I'm shooting for a minimum of an an hour of "work" a day.
My plan looks like this

Monday:
Reading aloud
Handwriting
Spanish

Tuesday:
Reading aloud
Phonics
Art

Wednesday:
Reading aloud
Math
Fine motor (My son has some pretty significant fine motor delays. I realize that wouldn't be one everyone's to do list.)

Thursday:
Reading aloud
Bible study
History

Friday:
Reading aloud
Science
Art

There is still some flexibility built into the schedule. If he decides on Wednesday, (math day,) that he'd rather play a math game than work in a workbook, that's cool. If he wants to make letters out of playdoh instead of doing the Montessori tweezing activity for fine motor skills practice, that's cool too.
The main thing is that it sort of gives me a bare bones plan to make sure that we really are covering everything, and sort of keeps me accountable.
Also if he wants to do extra, that's great, and will be encouraged, but if we only do the minimum I've laid out, I'm satisfied that he'll be getting an adequate kindergarten education, while still allowing him the freedom to just be a little boy and follow his interests.
School starts next week for us, so it remains to be seen how this schedule works for us, but I think it's an improvement over the way we did things last year.

We tried to do a little lapbooking last year, but at the time my son's lack of fine motor skills meant that I had to do virtually all the cutting, gluing and writing. I wasn't sure if he was getting much out of it.
Over the summer his fine motor skills have progressed by leaps and bounds, though, and we'll probably be trying again this year. There are so many good ideas and templates at homeschoolshare and 1+1+1.

I am a totally organized homeschooling mom! I have to be organized or I think my kids are not learning enough. I just spent a bunch of money getting more organized for this coming year.

I spend more time trying to get organized than teaching. Then I change everything again, and I'm back to square one. Grin Want to give me some of your organizational powers? Wink
