Has anyone used TT Algebra-up? If so, how do you like it? I've used TT the past 2 years & have been fine with it. My son's last standardized testing showed his math score dropped. I don't know if it was just a weird thing or if the math curriculum had something to do with it. I've also heard from a couple of people say negative things about the higher courses. So, I would appreciate any & all opinions on this!
Thanks...

We use it - just finished up 5th grade. It is lacking in some areas, but my dd scores high in computation.

I can handle the areas that are weaker/behind as long as the tears stay away. I am not good at teaching math and we both get frustrated!

Dont know much about higher grades, my my friend uses it for higher grades and is pleased!

I do not subscribe to all the negative talk associated with this curriculum. There have been far, far too many positive testimonies about the long-term success of TT for me to cast it aside because of these naysayers. It's a shame that word passes around like this and scares people off before they even try it...I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a perfect math program out there that is the right solution for every single student. What we have are many options to choose from that can be matched up to our student's learning styles. Anyone that doesn't do well with TT just may need some supplemental one-on-one involvement or even an all together different program that presents the material in a way that is a better fit. Please remember that just because a student is lagging in math doesn't automatically mean it's the fault of the curriculum. There may be other issues going on with the student which are equally as important.

My dd has been using TT for three years now and her scores and comprehension have improved vastly. I add Life of Fred once a week just for fun (at the recommendation of The Well Trained Mind), but TT is her main math curriculum and it is working beautifully. She is not particularly "mathy", but she is very smart and capable, is progressing at an above average rate and she is retaining the information. We tried three other math programs before finally hitting on TT, and I'd hate to switch again because she is finally getting it. This is the best she has ever done in math all along.

Same here! I can't tell you how many different currics I tried for ds12. Then a friend blessed me with a free set of TT and life had been SO much easier! I can't wait until the others are old enough to switch.

Carrie, what would you say are the areas it's lacking in that I could supplement? I just let him go along at a lesson a day and checked up on his scores. Never really thought about what it may be lacking in content. Homeschool Mom of the Year Award over here!  Embarrassed  Roll Eyes

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter. I truly hope no one takes my question as a negative for TT. TT was a life-saver for me 2 years ago & I've been pleased with it. Asking for opinions is a dangerous slope. Although I value other's opinions & their experiences, I fully rely on God's leading. I know that He will lead our family in this exciting, yet challenging endeavor! Thanks again for your thoughts.

We just finished TT Alg I, and the kiddos are doing great.  Like any curriculum they can have some bumps in the road, but overall we've had a very positive experience with it for the past 3 years.
Blessings,
