I just ran across freebie and for the month of January only, Funnix  Reading Tutor program is giving away their program that is  $249.   Comes with teacher guides, workbooks, and 2 reading program levels.  Might be something worth checking out for those with young kiddos Smiley

I am in the process of it, apparently they were not expecting as many people to get it as there is, and their servers are puffing steam trying to keep up with the demand, so the files are taking forever.  I have cable and the first one said it was going to take an hour to finish, I don't know if it did as I left it up and did other things, now I am on the other which says it has 45 minutes left.  So, if you can do it maybe early in the morning, when it first opens, maybe the times would be faster, or for those with little ones, the midnight wakings might be a good time to try lol.

I downloaded this it's really neat!  It's very similar to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 EZ Lessons, only in color and on the computer.  There are worksheets as well, but it's not much writing and the computer parts are lots of fun.  Really neat program.

I meant to post this here for everyone and totally spaced it.

I got the free funnix and tried over 30 times to download and install and got nowhere. I finally asked my moms boyfriend to try it at his house (he's an IT guy) and it installed on the first try. So I brought him the same computer I had been trying to install on and it installed there on the first try as well. As an IT guy you would think he could see exactly why I was having trouble, but he said there is nothing to show him what went wrong at my house so we have theories.

1. ISP, we think maybe SBC/ATT might have blocked it? His connection is through Charter cable and it the highest speed you can get. He also runs a T1 line but didn't use it to install.

2. Speed, we think it has to be a very fast process to be successful. Even on my DSL which is fast the download time was listed as 15 minutes per section.

Also some hints and tips from their customer service.
If when installing it asks you to "choose another drive or location to install to" then it will never install from that download and you should start again.
You cannot install to anywhere by your C: drive...not to an external drive or flash card etc. Interestingly the IT guy installed mine to my secondary drive and it works fine, but my secondary is identical to my primary so I guess it worked.

If you still cannot install contact customer service, perhaps they will extend the offer or something if enough people have problems. Oh and keep your downloads so if something ever goes wrong you can reinstall.

Oh and I have briefly checked out the program and so far it looks great! We are actually starting it tomorrow Smiley I will let you all know how its goes.

I was able to get all of them to download today, but it took about an hour for each part. The program looks really great though!
