Me and my Hubby!

I was wondering if you all have heard how the republicans want to give homeschoolers tax breaks. At first, I thought this was wonderful! Then I started reading that there are those who do not agree with this unless we have to be held more accountable. This could mean many things, like curricula, teaching about Bible, standardized testing, etc.

Here is the article: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2011/01/04/do-home-schoolers-deserve-a-tax-break

Let me know your thoughts. I was astonished reading the comments on the second page. I know we are not liked by many, but these are mean, angry, and ignorant people!

There is always a catch when money is offered! I have my two youngest in a public home based charter school. Many of the "requirements" are onerous but.... no one really checks up on what is going on in my classroom, they only look at the samples we turn in, which are always within the "guidelines" whether or not I taught other ideas. So I am good for now and taking the governments money in a way as the charter school allows a certain amount of $ for curriculum including music and PE. I don't get a tax break per se but a lot of what we do is paid for. I would never consent to being personally visited and held accountable for my teaching in order to receive $ or a tax break though! I feel very sorry for those who don't understand.

You got me excited for a minute, I would love a tax break  Grin
However, not enough for the goverment to get involved.

My state is so super easy, nobody ever checks on me. All I have to do it let them know who I am homeschooling and what grades they are in. Plus keep records of what we do (just in case they ever want to check) and teach the 5 main subjects. I do everything they ask, but if I knew someone would be breathing down my neck, I would be so stressed out  Roll Eyes
