I am considering putting my oldest in private school (his dad's mother would pay). They use School of Tomorrow A.C.E. (Paces). Anybody know anything about this program?

I have a couple of friends who use them and like them. I have never used them though.

My two oldest sons were in a Christian school that uses that curriculum.  My only problem with it is that they were sooo easy.  Both boys came out with high grades, but little knowledge retention for the following school year.  They are all workbooks, which can be okay, but it was entirely self directed in this school, as it is in many.  Without a lot of teacher input, it teaches independence, but also can be detrimental to the student with any learning needs that are unaddressed.  If your student is capable of mostly unaided learning and is very bright perhaps it would be a good fit.  My two boys both had wonderful grades , but did poorly when I began homeschooling and really checking their knowledge.  Just some thoughts, I hope that it helps you.  Smiley  Mandi

Mandi,
Thanks for the info! It was my understanding that it is "move at your own pace." So is it possible to test the children and see what level they need to be on? Or do the schools usually just place them in their grade-level workbooks and leave it at that? My son is EXTREMELY lazy, but very bright, and can accomplish a lot if pushed, so this is alarming news to me...

I am using A.C.E. at home and I had my DD take the placement tests.  She started out in different levels at the begining of the year.  In the beginning I just tested her out of each workbook until she stopped getting As/Bs.  She does 4-5 pages a day and more if she knows the stuff.  I am just using their LA stuff and most is what she knows.  She used First Language Lessons levels 1-4 and all that memorization has paid off now.  It's still a bit easy for her but she is also learning.  She is at the end of her grade now and it is getting just a bit harder on her but it's written for her to understand.  If she still has problems I go online for extra work.
