Me and my Hubby!

WWW

Ok, well, we have a murderer on the lose in a 10 mile radius of us so they were urging parents to not allow their kids to walk to the school but this am. They were so serious about it that they said if you HAVE to let them, call the police and they will come and take them to school for you.

So, my friend dropped off her 7th grader here this am so we could take her to the school bus and wait with her.

My dd jokinly called me a douche bag this morning. I was shocked! I asked her where she heard that and it was from my friend's dd that was here this morning. She was referring to a boy that bugged her.

So, I proceeded to explain to my dd what a douche bag was. She was grossed out! lol! When I got my frind's dd from the bus this afternoon, I asked her if she knew what it was. She said someone who was a jerk. So, I explained it to her, and she was so embarrassed! I thought it was funny, but I would have been appalled had my dd said it at church or something!

That was very brave of you to explain to both girls what they were really saying. It was the best way to handle it. My kids have had the same reaction when told what some things they were saying meant!

I have found honesty is best. I like the "shock factor" some of the things I tell her creates! She gets more embarrassed than I do, and my husband just totally freaks out. He heard me start to tell her the meaning and explain it and he had to run out of the room!  Roll Eyes

We're open with DS about what stuff means.  It works the best to hear it from us, not his "same-age peers".  Everytime he goes on a scout campout (most boys are in PS), he comes home and tells us what new euphamisms he's heard for a male body part.  We always say that most of them don't make any sense at all.  But with him sharing, we find out what the new terms are...lest we be caught using them innocently!

Speaking of other stuff PS kids learn...

Two weeks ago, my DD came home with homework about Justin Bieber.  DS said, "hey, why don't I get to study him!?!?" [sarcasm]  He was just dumbfounded.  He thinks his sister's school is a prison.  Some of the rules they have are probably stricter than one!

Homework on Justin Beiber...seriously?  Roll Eyes When my DS went to ghetto school on Monday, for Homecoming week they had different "days," and Monday was "Swagger Day: Come as your favorite Rapper, Actor...," You should have seen the clothes those little preteen black girls were wearing. It broke my heart. But at the same time it was also funny. One girl was wearing these knee-high black leather hooker boots. The kind that lace all the way up.  Shocked

This was awful, but funny. My eleven year old public schooled niece is constantly passing on stuff to my little boy.

On our quest to decide homeschool or not to homeschool... we saw all the benefits of individualized teaching/learning, we saw the cost  Shocked but what stuck with us was this:

Their loyalty is at home
